Swine Flu, H1N1

Monitor our daily posts for up to the minute updates. For basic protection follow these guidelines.

  • Get vaccinated. 36,000 people die every year in the U.S. The Swine Flu, or H1N1 of 2009 will likely be just as deadly. Thus, the odds of dying from the flu in the U.S are 1 in 8,444. Click here for more information on vaccination risks.
  • Wash your hands like you’ve got Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.
  • Cover your mouth and nose when you sneeze. Avoid people who don’t cover their mouth and nose like they’ve got the plague, er, flu.
  • Don’t, well, don’t pick your nose. Don’t even rub your eyes (see earlier comment about OCD).
  • If possible, stay away from sick people.
  • The antivirals Tamiflu and Relenza appear to be effective. Click here to read the CDC’s guidelines on their use. If you have children, you’ll want to read the CDC’s recommendations for using the antiviral medications for treating children.
