Generator Inspiration
For those of you who missed parts 1 and 2 of this series. Here’s a quick recap. In part 1 I wrote about my new-found panic at discovering that in case of even short-term power outage, my family was at risk, especially during a New England winter, but summertime has its own risks. Remember the Northeast blackouts of 2003?
In part 2, I thoroughly self-terrorized, and then I set out to learn everything I could about backup generators, weighing the cost, value, and practicality all manner of generators including small gas generators, BIG-and-cheap gas generators, diesel generators, and large-scale standby propane generators (cool but pricey). I also had to figure out what exactly it was I wanted to power (my heating system, and my fridge). That exercise led me to conclude I needed a small, built-to-last, 2,000-watt generator. In Part 3, I’ll explain why I picked the generator I picked, and the process of actually hooking it up to my house.
